GABE carried out specialist works as part of the St Dominic’s Bridge refurbishment in Drogheda. Working as specialist subcontractor to Jons Civil Engineering, GABE delivered access scaffolding, encapsulation, metalwork repairs and protective coatings to the listed bridge over the River Boyne.
The works included structural cast-iron column reinforcement and extensive steel surface preparation. GABE manually cleaned and fresh-water washed the structure before using UHP, grit blasting and mechanical preparation methods. Full encapsulation, heating, dehumidification and dust extraction controlled conditions throughout the works.
GABE then applied a high-specification epoxy protective coating system with glass flake protection to more severely exposed areas of the bridge.
The team carefully planned works around tides, isolations and possessions while maintaining navigation channels. Strict environmental controls also prevented debris and dust from entering the River Boyne.
