Goosemoor Lane Pedestrian Footpath

The project was the construction of a cantilever steel pedestrian walkway, approximately 58m long x 2m wide and fixed to the elevation of a circa 1850 year old existing 6 span brick arch bridge over the River Idle at Ordsall Mill.

The footbridge is to alleviate the danger on the original bridge that was notoriously narrow with only a single 900 mm wide footpath on one side that was the subject of safety concerns by local residents for years.

GABE scope of work was to set up traffic management, close the road, locate and protect existing services, excavate and install reinforced concrete anchor fixings within the road, excavate and install reinforced concrete pad foundations in the river bed, all associated water protection and environmental control. Fabrication and installation of new cantilever steel walkway, covering with antiskid.

Fabrication and erection of stainless steel handrail, reinforced concrete abutment walls and all associated builders work at either end of the bridge to join up with existing foot paths on Goosemoor Lane and All Hallows Street.

The project commenced in March 2018 and finished on programme and in budget in June 2018
